Have you lost some pieces of yourself that you’d like to reclaim? Today I’m going to share with you one of the best tools I’ve found for tapping back into the real you!

Do you know who you are really?

I’m not talking about what you do, but who you are. Not your roles like woman, wife, daughter, sister, mother, aunt, or grandmother. Not the job you have and whether you’re a hard worker, good team player and get things done on time. Do you know who you really are?

When you were little, were there certain things you liked and enjoyed, but something or someone convinced you that they were a waste of time? Not cool? Made you seem different from others?

Did you start to value what others said more than you trusted your inner knowing? Did you give up things that gave you joy because you thought they kept you from fitting in, being loved, or acknowledged? Please don’t beat yourself up if this happened to you. A lot of us did exactly the same thing.

I remember when I was young, being told I was too emotional when a story, book or program touched me deeply. I took what was said to heart, which is also a part of who I really am. As other pieces of the real me didn’t appear to be acceptable, I started to protect myself by building walls (gaining weight etc.) to keep the real me hidden from others so that I wouldn’t get hurt. Then it was me who started to bully myself about my weight. All of this because I’d lost the real me.

It’s taken me time and a lot of work to get back in touch with, honor and reclaim the joy of who I really am.

Where are you on this journey of being who you really are? Have you lost some pieces of yourself that you’d like to reclaim? Let’s take a look at an exercise to help you get back in touch with what you’ve lost.

Feed Your Soul Exercise ~ Chatting With The Real You

This is one of the best tools I’ve ever experienced, and the only way you’ll know if it’s right for you, is to give it a try.

~ Prepare the night before for this exercise by having some paper or a notebook and a pencil next to your bed
~ Before going to sleep, write a question you’d like answered by the real you
~ As soon as you wake up in the morning, while you’re still in a half sleep state, take your paper and pencil and invite your inner self to give you the answer to your question
~ Keep quiet and don’t start thinking of how your question should be answered, just allow the words to come to you and write them down
~ Once you have the answer, read what your inner self has to say
~ How do you feel about the answer? Not what you think, but how do you feel about it?
~ Does the answer feel right to you?
~ Get ready tonight and repeat these steps tomorrow

The reason you do this first thing in the morning is to have your chatterbox mind still be partly asleep. That way you’ll be more receptive to hearing the real you. Also, don’t fret over the questions. Start where you are and just be curious. There is no right or wrong way to do this!

When I first did this, I was sooo skeptical, but I kept at it. At first the answers seemed to come more from my mind, but then as I became more comfortable with the process, I couldn’t believe what answers started showing up. It got easier the more I practiced and my questions and answers became deeper over time.

The best part was I learned so many things about myself that had been buried for so long and helped me reconnect to me, the real me.
